Type a Greek, Latin, or Hebrew/Aramaic word above.
About this concordance
Search any word in the Torah and the Prophets (26 books) and see every verse where it occurs, in the Septuagint, the Masoretic Text, the Vulgate, Targum Onkelos (Torah), and Targum Jonathan (Prophets) — then open any verse in all five versions in parallel. The Writings are not in this first version.
How to search
The script you type decides which versions are searched: Greek script searches the Septuagint, Latin script the Vulgate, Hebrew script the Masoretic Text and both Targums. Septuagint search is by lemma (dictionary form): type logos as λόγος, not an inflected form. Vulgate, Masoretic Text, and Targum search is form-based in this first version: type the word form exactly as it appears in the text, including any attached prefix — searching a bare stem will not find its prefixed forms. Accents are ignored for Greek, vocalization for Hebrew and Aramaic. Lemma-based search for the Vulgate, the Masoretic Text, and the Targums is a planned follow-up, not part of this version; so is prefix-insensitive Hebrew search and the Writings.
Septuagint lemmas come from the same morphology data as the LXX & Vulgate Reader. 3737 of the 15,070 Septuagint verses (about a quarter) have no lemma data in that source — whole verses, never part of a verse; the gap is in the source data, not in this index. Those verses are indexed by their surface forms instead, so a lemma search will not find words that occur only in them; searching the surface form itself will.
Divine names
Masoretic Text verses on this page show the divine names in the abbreviated forms used throughout this site, never in full. Searching the full consonantal form of the Tetragrammaton also finds those occurrences, since the index answers it with the same references. Targum text already uses the abbreviated form for the Tetragrammaton.
Versification — read before comparing verses
The parallel view is keyed by KJV numbering, and every version's block is labelled with that version's own reference. Occurrence references in the search results are likewise always in the searched version's own numbering. Two books need exact chapter mappings, applied here: Joel — KJV 2:28–32 is Masoretic/Jonathan 3:1–5, and KJV 3:1–21 is Masoretic/Jonathan 4:1–21; Malachi — KJV 4:1–6 is Masoretic/Jonathan 3:19–24. Beyond those two books, verse divisions still differ within many chapters (splits and joins, and a few chapter-boundary shifts, e.g. 1 Kings 4–5), so a same-numbered verse in another version may hold different content, and the corresponding content may sit in an adjacent verse or chapter. The parallel view matches by reference number, not by content alignment, and no verse is ever silently renumbered. Two further known differences: Onkelos has 22 verses in Exodus 20 and 29 in Deuteronomy 5 where the Masoretic Text has 23 and 30 (the Ten Commandments chapters); and the Septuagint's Jeremiah arranges the oracles against the nations differently from chapter 25 on, so parallels there are by reference, not by content. Verse totals: Septuagint 15,070 verses, Masoretic Text 15,142 , Vulgate 15,142 , Onkelos 5,844 , Jonathan 9,296 .
